Nemo Survival Kit

There is nothing more fun than a huge snowstorm.  It’s like Christmas with all of its hustle and bustle and you get to go around town saying things like, “Jesus, this ones gonna be a doozy,” or “How about that forecast for yeah?”

This all cracks me up.

That’s not saying that I’m not one to be prepared.  Oh no, I’m player when it comes to rolling out a good storm prep.  This morning, I got up early and went to the gym to work out my wiggles.  That’s importance for the parental patience factor that comes with these days home from school.

Then I went to Whole Foods and stood in line with all the crazies waiting for the doors to open.

I went directly to the paper aisle and bought this:

I bought this because I wanted to be one of the cool kids who is a role model for emergency preparedness.  I walked around the store taking note of just how much toilet paper Whole Foods was selling.  Let’s just say, they are making a mint!

Next came this:

What to eat on a snow day is something that I spend a lot of time debating and thinking about.  I deviated from my usual roast chicken and I’ve decided to make some of this:

“Winner, winner, blizzard dinner!”

I’m going to make some homemade pickles and buttermilk mashed potatoes.  Though, I’m tempted to make waffles as a side dish (looks great on TV!).  Input would be appreciated.

Looking to cheer up the house I bought these:

Cards are a survival must.  Cards lift the spirt and feed the soul. They also bring out my competitive edge. Cribbage anyone?IMG_5805

(Don’t you love this fancy pack? I think they are from the 60′s.  They are bedazzled.)

So that’s my Nemo Survival Kit.  If I missed anything please let me know.  I’ll add it to the list for next time.

Have a happy storm and remember it’s all about being prepared!

Looks like you have everything you need to ride the storm out. I went out a couple of days ago and brought back provisions – aka wine – but now, I think I really, REALLY need a similarly bedazzled deck of cards! They’re beautiful!! EBay?

  2. The cards are from Eric’s grandparents. Every single thing they owned was fancy. They even had original works of art in the bathroom! They simply couldn’t resist that stuff.

Oh, how true!!! Every once in a while I think about the Tiffany clock that graced the front hall at Piper Shores. Wish I had taken a photo – just so “over the top”! Will try the stirfry with kids. Yummy!! Sunday looks like a cold day – was thinking about Sanibel, but maybe too cold – will be adjusting as time progresses!!

You Mainers really know how to ride out a storm! I think you really got it covered: fry, wine, and games! Kinda makes me wish we were just starting the storm and I could start over, as my list included: in-laws, washing dishes, and back pain. I’m gonna do it your way next time!
