To My Writing Friends…

photo

On Monday, I pulled myself to the beach for a walk.  It was a freaky January day in Maine.  The air was almost too warm and people were carrying around jackets and talking louder than they would in the usual chill.

I’d spent much of that day smarting from the loss of one of my classes (budget cuts!).   I don’t make much money.  If you cut it in half, it’s like split’n a nickel.  This causes me to think of ridiculous business ideas.  Like possibly hitting the road for a speaking tour (what do you want me to talk about? It’s no problem).  Or ramping up my freelance business. Or becoming a professional dog walker.  Normal digressions.

It all didn’t matter once I was outside though. The sky was breathtaking and opportunity seemed close at hand.  That’s the thing about life, you really don’t know what new venture is sneaking around every corner.  Which way to go on this choose your own adventure life will be your best path?

I walked to the point in the distance.  Along the way,  I got the best news from a writing friend that was simply amazing.  Seeing my friend’s successes fuel my own ambitions and erase my crazy ideas and notions.  For this friend, my fingers are crossed and I’m hoping for the best. I can’t wait to see what happens next. Regardless, it is all so well-deserved.

  1. I love this, Julie. Yes–I revel in the surprises around every corner just as you do. :-) And those “crazy notions” of yours are the continuing foundation for *huge* successes. I know they days will come soon when I am hearing great news down here in CT from Maine. Can’t wait for the inevitable! <3 The loss of a class stinks—but it does give you more time for other things. 

  2. I DO! In fact, I lingered on it for quite a while. You’re lucky to be so close to such awesomeness!

Beautiful! One of my favorite poets collections is called Take Sky, (David McCord.) Yes, I think I will. The Globe just had a collection of sky photos too. I feel sorry for people who do not look up! You do! Thanks!

  4. And today the snow! I was inspired to take more photos. MJ, have you read Lynda’s books One for the Murphy’s? You’d love it.
