Thoughts on February Break in Maine

Here I am in my burly sweater from LL Beans and a scarf and some gloves.  This is symbolic to where I thought I’d be this holiday break.  I should be on the ski slopes, zipping across the ice, or meandering through fields on my cross country skis, or sledding, or….

Okay, none of those things happened because here in Maine we seem to be experiencing the dreaded mud season.  Humph!

So instead of winter fun, I’m living an odd Southern Maine phenomenon where every single parent chooses the exact same thing to do, then we all squeeze into these tiny places of kids delights, or we move from one thing to the next searching for a place that can accommodate just one more family.  That’s right every single place we’ve been this week has been mobbed, which gives me a quiet anxiety.  Just saying.

So, I’m thinking of jumping in the car and heading off in search of winter.  I’ve heard rumors of snow, I wonder if it’s true.  In my head it all sounds just marvelous.
