I had a fabulous time at the Rated Local, Short Works from Maine Filmmakers last night. Here’s the info:
Works from Maine filmmakers. Enjoy eight original films from multiple genres, including documentary, action, horror, comedy, western, and music video. Check out the trailer…
People who make something out of nothing always inspire me. I mean really, where do the ideas come from? They can seem so random and thoughtful at the same time. These people document lives, create parody, and evoke a sense of obscurity that is refreshing. These local filmakers did it. They saw their ideas come true on the big screen, that’s cool.
It did make me ponder the Mainers’ mind a bit though. Wow, we are a wickedly sick group of individuals. Aren’t we?
Most of these shorts had blatant darkness, or a darkness that seemed to be sneaking around the corners, like the Maine fog. Kind of funny, the novel that I am currently trying to sell has its own darkness. Actually, my writing partner wanted to know if I channeled Stephen King, or quite possibly the devil while writing it. Have no fear folks, it has a happy ending. But, I did creep myself out while writing it. Who knew?
Rated Local is an off-beat way to look at Mainers as a distinct diverse group. I encourage you to go out and support the folks who are the creators! Give them a shout out as I am doing right now. Congrats.

Mainer’s odd sense of the world
Fog shrouded darkness
Last night:
At the midnight hour
Mainer slams into door, pow!
Nose cracks, kappow. Owe.
Just got a phone call, people telling me not to haiku ever again. Okay.
